Douglas Village Shopping Centre: 50 years at the heart of the village

Douglas Village Shopping Centre are marking a major milestone this week. Douglas Village Shopping Centre will be marking 50 years at the heart of the village on Thursday, 18 November.
Opening in 1971, it not only became Cork’s first shopping centre, but it was also only the second shopping centre in the country at the time.
Throughout its various stages of growth across the years, Douglas Village Shopping Centre never lost it’s village feel. As well as offering a great retail experience with a wide range of stores, it has also become a popular place to meet with friends and socialise.
In honour of the milestone, a photo exhibition of Douglas Village Shopping Centre over the fifty years will be displayed throughout the shopping mall.
Bartosz Mieszala, Douglas Village Shopping Centre Manager, said: “We are delighted to reach this milestone today, in 2021. All the customers and staff over the years have played a part in making the shopping centre what it is today, the heart of the village… Thank you for the last 50 years, together, at the heart of the village”.
